How to "Save As ..." in Excel 2007.

For the first time ever, I use Excel 2007. And I don't know how to "save as", that is, to save a file in a different format than the default Excel format.

So I google it, and find this page from Digg.

I'm amazed that many people think it's a stupid question. Many people don't answer the question, just saying the guy who asked this question is retarded. They say, "To publicize how stupid this question is, let's keep posting!" How mean they are. As a result, I have to scroll down quite a bit to find the solution:

RIGHT CLICK on quick access toolbar
SELECT Customize quick access toolbar
SELECT Show All Commands from "Choose commands from:" drop down
SELECT Save As
CLICK add
The guy who asked this question (and I myself) is not retarded. It's Microsoft Excel developers who are retarded. How can you design the updated version of software so un-intuitively to the users of the previous version? (They completely reshuffle which command belongs to which menu bar.)

And the most annoying feature of Excel, namely, a pop-up window always shows up when I want to close a file that is already saved in the non-Excel format, still remains in this new version of Excel. It is Microsoft Excel developers who are retarded.

And when I enter "mar2003" (as the survey identifier for the one conducted in Morocco in 2003; "MAR" is the ISO code for Morocco), Excel 2007 recognizes it as 3/1/2003 (as the previous version of Excel does). Who would enter "mar2003" for 1st March 2003? It is Microsoft Excel developers who are retarded.

Thanks so much for your post. Excel 2007 is not intuitive, and in my opinion, the interface is poorly redesigned.

You saved me about 20 minutes of digging through file menus to find a very simple command.

MS think they know whats best for us, they are SO out of touch!Thanks for pointing in right direction! MS has screwed up with Windows 7 as well, not being able to drag and drop files in folders. Thank you for posting this, despite having worked in IT for 12 years I couldn't see the damned Save As button and had to resort to Google for the answer - something I really shouldn't have to do. As for the MS Developers, it's very easy to blast someone for not knowing something when you know a product (& recent changes) inside out.

Usually, I use OpenOffice, but I changed work PCs and was forced to use Excel with the missing "Save As" button.

You are absolutely right. Thank you for the post, cause I spent almost 1 hour trying to find where they hide the 'save as' option. It happens now that instead of facilitating us the new excel is doing the opposite - waste our time making efforts to find the necessary option

Thank you so much for answering that question for me. I also read that post FIRST, before I found your answer. I have been writing computer software since 1966, I couldn't find it either. 2007 isn't exactly intuitive......

I just stick to open office normally, but had to "save as" in excel 2007.

How idiotic!

Very bad user interface design, no wonder I hear so much from people on how they hated the "banners"!

If it's not broke, make it unusable, huh? ;)

Thank you! WHY, WHY wouldn't developers have done some analytics on what commands were most commonly used? I have an older version and have the hardest time on 2007 Word. It's a frustrating waste of time....and it's not like I'm an idiot (12yr user of MS Word, 15yr Mensa member).

I hated 2007 since day one! I still use 2003 and refuse to use 2007 even though I paid through the nose for it, unless absolutely necessary!

Thanks for the post. I too had no idea where to find the Save As button, after my version of Office was upgraded at work. I want to add that it turns out you can get to "Save As" by clicking on the giant Microsoft Office logo in the upper left-hand corner. I had no idea the logo was actually a command menu.

Pardon my language in advance, but HOLY BLEEPIN BLEEP! I first used office 2007 in, ...2007, and refused to use it anymore because of this exact problem.

Now, in 2012 as you can see from my timestamp, I am being forced to use office 2007 due to a new computer at work.

I can't believe those blithering motherbleepin arrogant morons did not fix this problem in the five intervening years.

If they really HAD to get rid of one of them, Save would be the one to remove, since Save As gives you all the other options (including Save with only one additional click.)

Thanks for that, made my day. I use the 2010 version, so i had to look elsewhere for that (excel-aid.com, the guide for "Excel save as" is quite good, video and pictures included), but your humor is just wonderful. Cant get that from a "professional" Website :P
